Apples wanted!

Apples
We’re asking for your help over the next couple of months to find and harvest all the apples that usually go to waste in Prestwich and Whitefield. We need them for the first ‘Apple Day’ that we’ll be organising in Philips Park on Saturday October 22nd as part of national Apple Day celebrations.

Maybe you have a tree in your garden and you can’t cope with all the fruit. Or you might have seen one in a neighbour’s garden, in a park or by the roadside and you know most of them will be left to rot. Let’s try not to waste any of them! We can use them to make pies, cakes and chutney ready for Apple Day. On the day itself we’ll juice apples from the orchard in Philips Park, those we have collected and any people bring along on the day. There will be apple bobbing and other children’s games and a display will feature the history of apples in our area. We hope you can come and join us there.

If you can help us to find and harvest apples or other fruit, please get in touch with us now. You can contact us here or by ringing George Heron on 0161 798 8762. Suggestions for Apple Day activities and offers of help to make it a success would also be very welcome.
