  • Philips park fruit garden
    September 2010 -
Bury Council has given us the use of quite a large area where glass houses once stood. It consists of a long south-facing wall with terraced ground in front which we have cleared to use as a fruit garden. Work goes on there most Saturdays from 10am.  Lifts are available - just ask!

Every Saturday morning throughout most of the year - but always best to check first.

  • Weeding 2
    October 2010 -
With support from Bury Council we have made three raised beds in the triangle of grass near the flagpole opposite the children's playground where we grow a mixture of veg, fruit and herbs. Work goes on there fortnightly on Saturday or Sunday mornings from 10am - 12 noon, spring to autumn, with some extra sessions when needed.

Next session will be Sunday 19th May.

  • Group work
    May 2011 -
The pub and Holts Brewery have let us make use of the end of the large beer garden behind the pub. We now have six raised vegetable beds and further planting on the banking at the bottom of the garden.

Work goes on there from 12 noon - 2pm on the 3rd Sunday of the month spring to autumn.

The first session of 2013 will be on Sunday February 17th.

  • Plots and paths
    May 2011 -
The Forestry Commission has given us the use of a large area where the old water treatment beds have been cleaned and filled with good quality soil. IEPAD is clearing it and splitting it into small plots - 'Not-a-lot-ments' - for the use of the local community. Contact us If you would like to help with the project or take over a small plot for yourself. Plot holders also get together some Sundays to do some general tidying up and path clearing.

  • September 2011 -
We have had permission from the council to develop a community forest garden in the small wooded area between the playground on Gardner Road and the allotments.  There is a Facebook Group which you can join and where you'll find much more information.

Volunteer work days take place once or twice a month on Sundays, 1-4pm - see Facebook for details.

  • Planting herbs
    November 2011 -

IEPAD has joined forces with the existing gardening club at the school on Whittaker Lane. We’ve taken responsibility for creating new beds in the front garden, with the emphasis on visually attractive edible plants and flowers to encourage insects.

  • Edible High Streets planter
    March 2012 -
With the help of a Bury Council Community Fund grant, Incredible Edible launched this project to brighten up Bury New Road and Whittaker Lane with planters or hanging baskets full of mainly edible plants. Several shops on these streets now have planters showing their own logo along with the IEPAD logo. The first of some larger fixed planters have been placed near St Mary's Church on Church Lane and at the entrance to Heaton Park Metrolink station.

Shops can order planters for £20. Volunteers are welcome to help with planting up or providing spare herb plants.

  • August 2010 - August 2011
IEPAD was invited to help by the Parent Teachers Association. An area of land had been fenced off at the back of the school for use as a fruit and vegetable garden. IEPAD and the PTA worked together over the summer in 2010 to clear the whole area and create a raised bed that the children could use for growing food. With IEPAD involvement a new parents' Gardening Group was set up to complete the project in July 2011 and the school is now taking the project forward.
